A brief history

Burnham Autos was started by Paul Burnham in 1981. Paul had studied at Motorcycle College and had been building bikes for both work and hobby. The company’s inception came about quite by accident after Paul’s Mark 2 Consul had been pushed into service following a bike accident. It was a column change vehicle & the only car he could drive in plaster! As is the way the Consul had some modifications, a 7.5 lt engine replaced the factory’s 1700cc and a Mk2 Jag front suspension set up was added complete with braking system.

But it was the rear of the car that really made the difference to Paul’s career, as after studying his contemporaries of the time (Harris Bros etc) and noticing their traction problems at the Drags, Paul decided to custom build a trick 4 bar set up for the Consul. After some trial and error the perfect system was found, Paul says it’s all to do with triangles. Burnham Autos first customer tracked Paul down after seeing the Consul on the road and wanted his car to handle as well. Strangely, this still happens today when people see Paul’s much modified Buick.
